Painting!

Here is a basic overview for the next 8 weeks!

Week 2 Jan. 30 (Vintage Camera) still life painting. Reminder: bring in clothing for next week’s visiting artist! Also, start bringing in old CDs….for a CD mosaic.

Week 3 February 6^th Visiting artist Martha Goldman will present her lesson on the wardrobe restyle. You must have your own ‘outfit’ to restyle!

Week 4 February 13^th Finish their garments from week 3 and have a ‘fashion show/photo shoot’.  If time allows, students we will draw each other posing in their newly redesigned outfits. Students may also need additional time to finish their paintings from week 2.  SNOW DAY!!!

Week 5  February 20^th TBA   (Sketch Idea for clay, finish paintings and fashion blogs)

Week 6 February 27^th Make something out of clay. Students will learn how to use hand-building techniques to make something out of clay.

FIELD TRIP: Week 7 March 5^th Visit Pheonix Fire Clay studio and tour facility (take ‘greenware’ to be fired).

FIELD TIRP??? Week 8 March 12^th Glaze clay (Possibly Move session to Art Walk on March 15th, visit Tyrannosaurs press?)

March 19^th Spring Break NO CLASS

Week 9 March 26^th Last week, wrap up final projects, return clay. Students take home all artwork from session 5 and finish blog posts!

***Make-UP Week: April 2^nd. If we have a snow day, everything moves back one week to the next week. 

The photos below are from week 2. Students drew thumbnail sketches from a still life containing a variety of objects including vintage cameras, animal figurines, and a deer skull. 

A photographer from the Joplin Globe was there to document the class....an article will be featured in the February issue of Joplin Metro Magazine!

After creating several sketches, students transferred the designs to a canvas.

Equine Gestures

Week one of Art Lounge Session 5 was a great success!! Students were introduced to all of the great projects we have planned for the next 9 weeks and then we went down to tour the gallery spaces.

In the main gallery, the exhibit is all about horses.   Local artist, Rachel Wilson created these amazing horse sculptures. The statues pair beautifully with Marian Bingham's equine prints. The show is entitled Equine Gestures.

We have a LOT of fun at Art Lounge each week. Sometimes we head downstairs for an impromptu photo shoot at sunset.

Art Lounge visits Jorge Leyva's Studio

My name is Makenzi and last week we went to visit Jorge Leyva’s art studio. It was a great experience to visit a local artist.  We all had the privilege to walk though and talk with Jorge. Towards the end of our visit we all sat down in his studio and did different sketches. We came together when we all had finished sketching and Jorge looked at all of our work. He told each person what he thought of their piece or pieces. I drew a candle surrounded by darkness, to show that no matter how much darkness there maybe in the world the light will always win. The main concept was to say that God will always stomp out that darkness.  Jorge told me that by my drawing he could tell I had a lot of hope in life and that I seemed like someone who wanted to change the world. All which is true. I really enjoyed going to his studio and seeing his art. He is a really cool and funny guy and I’m glad I had the privilege to go.

Hey, I’m Chadan from the creative splash

Last week we went to studio of an artist named  Jorge Jeyva . Now he was telling our group some words of advice. He told me that my landscape drawing was better than my person. The only thing with my person was I just made it up but I was looking at the woods. But he told me “if you want to draw people tell them to sit down and shut up because I’m going to draw you the”.

 

Hi! I'm Larry and I make things way too complicated……. That was the basics of what he told me. When asked to explain my work I talk waaaay too much!!!  And I believe this! When I try to explain my work I tend to ramble…, so I took his advice and am now just doing quick sketches and letting the work speak for itself.

Hi I'm Kathrine! Jorge Leyva pretty much told me that I was a graphic designer and I have dark insides. Speaking of dark insides... my drawing was of an evil bird glaring at a good bird that was falling into fire, and my second was of a heart with a keyhole for her nose that opened up to a broken person with a knife in his head and his heart, dangling from a chain and thorns all around his feet. I'm gonna start looking more at graphic designart and exploring it. :)
